A message from the CEO

Welcome to the KZN Sharks Board, the only organization of its kind in the world.

Our core mandates are (i) protecting bathers and other sea users against shark attack, (ii) conducting biological research and monitoring, with a focus on species affected by the bather protection schemes, (iii) educating the public about the activities of the organization and (iv) promoting both beach and marine tourism along the coastline of the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

We are currently exploring methods of protecting bathers that do not involve the capture of marine organisms.

As the only organisation of its kind in the world, we commit to embarking on a communication strategy about the activities of the organization to ensure maximum participation by all stakeholders.  It is our intention to establish partnerships with relevant stakeholders to facilitate skills development of black participants/students in the programmes of the organization.

In keeping with the broad based transformation initiatives of government, we commit to identifying supply chain value add initiatives to comply with preferential procurement legislation. In this regard, we are inviting all suppliers who wish to do business with the KZNSB to register in our database of prospective suppliers. In compliance with the pronouncement of the President of the Republic of South Africa on Employment Creation, we intend to embark on a supply chain management process that promotes the broadest economic empowerment whilst keeping the spirit of the Constitution of being fair and competitive. We will facilitate the entrance of black students and employees and the development of existing employees in participation in the organization with a view to increased economic participation.  We intend to develop the skills of the existing employees to best practice international levels.
